Throughout my life I have noticed “the little things”. I was blessed, as a child, to grow up on an old farm that was surrounded with nature. I have many fond childhood memories of running through wildflower meadows chasing butterflies, and exploring all kinds of wildlife that thrived along the property. We didn’t have much money in those days but I don’t remember ever being bored.
The older I get, the more I seek and savour time spent in nature. I feel that it is nature which opens our eyes and hearts to messages from God and the spirits of the universe. My paintings come from various activities that I enjoy outdoors. They start from a hike on a forest trail, a canoe paddle up the river, a walk along a sandy beach, or a night spent under the stars in a little tent beside a lake. The essence of my experiences comes back with me to the studio. When I paint I lose myself in reflective thought and quiet contemplation.
My goal is to provide an entry point for the viewer to move towards. Be it a wildflower, a butterfly, a blade of grass or an abstract reflection. My hope is that the viewer will find their own experiences to reflect on and dreams to aspire to.
